Hi Anne Marie
Good luck with your application. I know how stressful your job is. I was a tutor for an adult college, working with learning disabled and people with mental health. It is very stressful and you have to be on your toes all the time. I used to come home completely exhausted and when you are going to work very tired to begin with it is very difficult. I retired in June this year. As I am sixty I just took natural retirement as I worked for myself. Hope it goes your way.

At least the things are happening now.
Its all down to the consultant now!!!!

Naomi we talked about redeployment, admin was mentioned, not a paper person just a people person,i would be unable to sit at a desk for long neck problems etc i am not keen on all the paper work, and with out the help from my work colleagues i would never have got this far, i know there are others in my field who feel just the same, when i started this job many yrs ago there was very little paper work. Thanks for the idea . x

Hi again
Make sure you push the fatigue aspect of RA. That was one of the key factors in my successful application.
Good luck and let us know how you get on.

Hi, i think fatigue is my major issue, i tried to explain today how it is. Imagine you are cleaning a cupboard for example, i can manage to empty it, but i am to exhausted to replace things, i then go have a rest and return when i am able, this is what i can do at home, but unfortunately i can not do this at work, i dont think the clients would approve lol i know its about pacing oneself, but it just cant be done when you are working, then theirs the guilt, i always feel so guilty when i am off sick from work, this i am sure is when depression is at its worst, the occy health Dr wrote in his report that fatigue was my main issue.
Well now all i have to do is wait, i was told it may go to a tribunal, i can not cope with this pressure, my work colleague said that she would step in for me she has done all my supervision and knows me pretty well, this would be great as i am useless at these things, its like an interview for me and i have been told in the past that i always sell myself short, i am crap at fighting for myself but great when its for others, i now feel that this was one reason i was good at my job, hows that!!!!?
My gosh do i waffle? i was unable to access the forum for a few days, but a quick call soon sorted that out. thanks Ladies.
Thank you all so much for the support i will keep you up to date as it may help others.

Hi there. I am following your thread closely as I really hope that you get the outcome you want, need and deserve. I totally sympathise about the fatigue and I know how hard it is with all the pressures of work and guilt about time off etc. Please keep us posted as I can see that I may well be in exactly the same situation as you in the future and want to learn about the possible outcomes. Your health and well being are the most important thing here and you know when you have reached the end of the road and need to make positive changes. GOOD LUCK with it all. Lets hope that 2012 is a good year for you and that things move quickly now to get this resolved X X X X X X X

How I wished I had seen this before I gave up my application for Ill Health Retirement. I may have followed a separate path. I applied last July (2011), as I have Psoriatic Arthritis, and worked for Local Government. My consultant, rhumy nurse, and GP were all in favour of my application, but the OH Dr decided he wanted further reports made from the hospital, when this was done, he refused the application on the basis I was going to start another set of treatment. I could only appeal if I provided further evidence but not on what my illness was about. He stated in the report that I was unable to complete any of the tasks at work, so why the refusal! MIxed messages here, I thought. As you are all aware there are always new treatments out there so decided that I would not get anywhere plus I was near the end of my allocation for sick leave, (six months full, six months half). At the time my Directorate was going through a PVR review, I applied for Voluntary Severance and got that and left my employment in May 2012. It really galled me when I saw the final figures as if I had been given the IHR it would have been £3k more per year. However, I am in full agreement with the medical staff, although it was morally wrong what happened, but now that I am retired to enjoy the better quality of life that I have now. Like today, feeling really tired with no energy and still in nightclothes at 12.30pm, and trying to up the ante to have a shower! Yet yesterday, was full of beans, today not so good.
